Trophy for Tour de France. Bubbles Capturing the Ephemerality of the Moment

In the world of sports, some trophies become iconic, like the Tour de France winner’s trophy crafted by Lasvit's glassmakers in Bohemia. This year, for the fourteenth time, we unveil a new design by Škoda Design, blending traditional craftsmanship with contemporary style and sports symbolism.

The 2024 Tour de France trophy, designed by Peter Olah from Škoda Design, embodies the race's dynamics and unpredictability. Its shape, reminiscent of a peloton, features amorphous bubbles rising from a precise base with the ŠKODA logo, dissipating towards the top and concealing the race logo.

The journey of creating the trophy

As in previous years, this year’s Tour de France trophy is a masterpiece of hand-blown and hand-cut glass, each piece bearing its unique signature of craftsmanship. “The process remains consistent year after year,” shares Anna Minaříková, PR Manager of Lasvit. “Hand-blowing and cutting ensure that each trophy is one-of-a-kind, giving winners a truly unique piece to cherish at home.”

“The shape of the trophy remains the same over the years. At the bottom, it is wider, just like the large starting field during the first stages. In the middle, it narrows, as the main favorites gradually emerge, and at the top, after numerous breakaways and sprints, only the absolute winner of the three-week race stands on the perpendicular peak,” describes designer Peter Olah from Škoda Design.

This year, due to the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris, the trophy presentation will not take place on the iconic Champs Elysées, but in the southern French city of Nice. The program for the final racing day includes an individual time trial on July 21.
