The main sources for my playful, delicate and dreamy installations are nature, stories and genius loci. I experiment with various materials, and draw from the tradition of glass craft and modern technology.
Michaela Mertlová is a young Czech designer who graduated from Rony Plesl’s Glass studio at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. She has also studied further abroad in the Product Design Atelier at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam. Her thesis work, Munchies, won the Stanislav Libenský Award, and in 2014 she was nominated for the Czech Grand Design Award as its Discovery of the Year. Together with the Psychognis, a design studio which she co-founded, she won the first prize for a collection and an installation at the Prague Design Week of 2014. Mertlová participated in local and international exhibitions, including Milan, Basel, Hamburg, Brussels and Munich, as well as DOX Gallery, and the National Gallery in Prague. She joined Lasvit in 2015 and has been working under Lasvit Hong Kong.
